Winemaking Notes:

Sémillon is a unique grape variety that often has a surprising richness and depth of flavor that sets it apart from its better-known partner Sauvignon Blanc. Both grapes hail from Bordeaux, where they have been cultivated for centuries and are frequently blended. In Washington, with just 250 acres planted, Sémillon is a rare gem.

It thrives at our vineyard site, and we love to amplify those characteristics with our winemaking. We are also spoiled to have our vineyard directly beside the winery and this allows us to pick the grapes at the perfect moment.  Our goal is always to capture the unique bright and fresh flavors, while also achieving full ripeness.

We fermented and aged sur lies in 20% new French oak barrels and stirred the barrels weekly to highlight the natural richness the grapes provide.  This vintage we also exposed 1/3 of the fermentations to a brief skin contact to add to the complexity of the wine. We inoculated each barrel with different yeasts and selected an array of barrel coopers.  This ensured every barrel was a slightly different expression. The final wine is exceptionally fresh and unexpectedly rich.
