Assemblage: 100% Merlot; hand-picked from our Winery Block on October 5, 2023
Elévage: Fermented in stainless steel. Barrel-aged for 18 months in neutral French oak.
Vintage Notes: 2022 was a rollercoaster growing year which fortunately ended on a high note. The spring was wet and chilly, marked by near record precipitation and below average temperatures. We suffered a freeze on April 7th which affected buds; this combined with the cold and wet weather led us to anticipate a small crop and pushed our ripening season back by a month. Starting in July, mother nature decided to cooperate, and we experienced perfect ripening weather through October. We also managed to avoid smoke from wildfires. Harvest was late and compressed which tested wine makers not on quality, because conditions were exceptional, but on style and space because varietals ripened in short succession. The exceptional flavor development, lower sugars and softer skins and tannins will make 2022 a vintage to remember.
Winemaker Notes: The 2022 Merlot showcases a myriad of aromas including notes of strawberry jam, plum, and hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, the tannin structure frames elegantly frames the flavors of black cherry, red huckleberry, dried herbs and baking spices. The finish is persistent, leaving a memorable impression. This elegant wine may be enjoyed now or can age for 10 years.

- Herb-marinated steak, pork ribs or lamb; meats complimented with fresh-herb sauces such as chimichurri or persillade
- Roasted chicken and potatoes
- Pasta with red-sauce and a pinch of chili
- Grilled vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini or carrots
- Aged and tangy cheeses such as goat cheese, "old" gouda or Roquefort
- For dessert: Berries and Fruit, anything with a red fruit sauce
