Winemaking Notes: The bounty of the 2023 vintage spoiled us with a particularly special treat – a Malbec! We typically have just enough Malbec to make our red blends, but this year we had enough to bottle a varietal Malbec. We sorted through our fermentations of Malbec to find the ones that sang their Malbecian song the loudest. Then, we added depth by blending in Petit Verdot and balanced it all out with Cabernet Sauvignon to give it a nice structural frame. We carefully selected specific barrels to highlight all the exciting Malbec characteristics, and we aged it for a few months longer than our typical to let it mature perfectly in barrel. The aromatics leap out of the glass, the fruit flavors pop and the tannins linger for a long, smooth finish. You’ll be able to enjoy this rare and special wine right now, or age it for a long time to come.
