Assemblage: 100% Cabernet Franc from our Certified Sustainable Estate Vineyard; Hand-harvested from Rose's Block (Clone 214) on October 4, 2021 and Catherine's Block on October 5, 2021.

Elévage: 21 months in new and once-used French oak from selected cooperages

Vintage Notes: 2021 was an unusual growing season in Washington, marked by a record-breaking heat which resulted in low yields. The most significant event was the historic “heat dome” in late June which sent temperatures in Zillah to upwards of 112 degrees. Our vineyard fared well during this heat as we watered liberally in advance and throughout.  The rest of the summer remained hot with “Grower Degree Days” averaging 8% more than 2015; one of the warmest years in recent memory. Temperatures cooled in September and October allowing for extended ripening and for acids to hang on. Overall, the harvest was marked by small berries, loose clusters and excellent fruit quality.

Winemaker Notes: This wine showcases the elegance and complexity of this beloved varietal. In the glass, you are greeted by a deep ruby color with a subtle tinge of purple, hinting at its youthful vibrancy. The bouquet unfolds with notes of red currant and peach, offering a touch of refreshing fruitiness. Intertwined are floral scents of violets. Further exploration reveals an earthy and savory layer with nuances of roasted red pepper and stewed vegetables. Hints of agave sweetness harmonize with the subtler aromas of tobacco leaves and freshly tanned leather to offer a sophisticated profile. On the palate, the wine delivers a medium to heavy tannin structure, providing a balanced and velvety mouthfeel. The fresh acidity uplifts the flavors. This wine is suitable to drink now and also demonstrates the potential to evolve and mature gracefully over time.

Recommended Food Pairings:

  • Earthy dishes such as roasted pork, beef burgers or stew, turkey and lamb
  • Hearty vegetables such as eggplant, roasted red pepper artichokes and mushrooms
  • Herbs such as oregano, thyme, rosemary and sage
  • For Dessert: anything with fresh raspberries
